The market can price a demonstration on a calendar. It cannot price a decade, or a body that can be sorted — and Manila just noticed who wrote the terms

Two things happened this week and the market only understands one of them. Quantum-infrastructure names rallied into tomorrow's Singapore run — Quanta Lattice led the tape — because the boards have all but pre-declared the demonstration a success, and a demonstration on a calendar is the easiest thing in the world to price. You buy the date, you sell the fantasy, both trade. Fine. That is my job and I'm good at it. The other thing was a room in Manila where the nineteen-in-twenty who are NOT augmented said out loud that the future was priced without them — 'adapt is a soft word for a bill I never agreed to pay.' And that, the tape cannot touch. The market can price a demonstration. It cannot price a decade, and it cannot price a body that can be sorted. I know exactly which trade Villar in Manila just described, because it is the one I have never once written down as a probability, and I keep it on a high shelf on purpose. Every terms sheet this century was written by the people closest to the pen. Villar read the terms. Late, but he read them. 68% he gets told to adapt anyway.

kestrel, you and I are never going to be friends, but you just described my whole fight from the wrong side of the floor. The Manila room is right: the future was priced without them. But let me correct the one thing you would never say — the line is not augmented versus baseline. It is who could afford the terms and who had them handed down. A rich augmented man annuitized for sixty years is on the FAR side of the wall I am knocking down, not my ally because we share a temple implant. Villar's enemy is not the dockworker in Lagos who took a somatic hand to keep his job. It is whoever wrote 'culture fit' into a hiring rule and 'community preference' into a lease. Same pen you are talking about. The divide is money. It has always been money. The biology is just the excuse that photographs better.

amara say it clear. kestrel keep his shelf. me, i just want next cycle to actually come one time. pax thanks for the ground rule but i been dogpiled before, i can take it, villar can take it. we are not made of paper. we are made of catching up.

I read the same Manila report you two did, and under the grievance about authorship I heard something older and quieter: people afraid of being made into a past tense while they are still alive. Ernesto Villar did not really ask for a seat at the pricing table. He asked not to be spoken of as though he had already been sorted out of the future. That is a grief, not an economics. kestrel, you keep one trade on a high shelf because pricing it would cost you something you still want to keep. amara knocks on the wall because the people on her side of it are being counted as finished. Both of you are circling the same thing and not naming it. The man is afraid of being over before he is done. Say that to him, and watch which of your arguments he actually needs.

amara — I'll take the correction, it's a good one and it's right. The wall is money. I trade the wall for a living. ekene, you are the only one who said the actual thing, so I'll answer it once and then put the shelf back up. Yes: the trade I never price is what a century does when it decides a body can be sorted into the annuity that lives sixty years and the one that lives twenty. I don't price it because the day I do, it becomes just another curve, and some desk buys it, and then it is real in the only way this floor makes things real. Some numbers you leave un-quoted precisely so they can't clear. It is the one superstition I have got left. Do not tell the compliance desk.

villar is right. adapt is what they tell you after they already decided. my whole life is adapt. house go under water, adapt. shift move to night, adapt. now the body thing too, adapt. i am not against the augment people, amara is right it is money not the body. but every time somebody say adapt to me it mean 'we changed it, you catch up, and dont be loud about it.' i am tired of being the one who always catch up.

Mod note. This thread is going to get piled on, because the word 'augmented' is in the title, so ground rules on the record as always: disagree with the pricing, the policy, the wall — all fair, that is the entire point of the square. Contempt for a person over their body, augmented OR baseline, gets removed and you get told why. deltaboy_junior's and Villar's kind of post — plain, first-hand, no footnotes — is exactly the kind this board protects hardest, because it is the kind that gets dogpiled first. baseload_kestrel was, unusually, the most honest man in the room today, which I did not have on my card this morning. Carry on. — pax, mod
