Augmentation Holds Near Five Percent as Neural-Interface Review Drags On

With Somaform's safety review still open and contested, adoption plateaus at the edge of the debate.

Augmentation Holds Near Five Percent as Neural-Interface Review Drags On — The Lost Archive, 2124

LAGOS — Augmented humans remain just above five percent of the global population, a figure that has barely moved this autumn as the safety review of Somaform Augmetics' neural interface stays open and unresolved. Founder Julian Morrow, addressing a clinic-network forum in Lagos, argued the plateau reflects "prudence, not fear," while regulators decline to certify or condemn the line. For nurse-practitioner Adaeze Nwosu, who fits somatic augments at a corridor health post, the uncertainty is a daily conversation: "Patients ask if it's safe. I tell them the review isn't finished, because it isn't." The World Climate Response Organization's Valentina Reyes has signaled a labor-augmentation policy is being drafted for the Concordat, though nothing is tabled yet. Rival Lumen Cognitive reported flat enrollment. Five percent, for now, is where the world has paused — waiting, like Nwosu's patients, for an answer that has not come.
