Q-Net Carries a Record Data Day Without Carrying a Single Word Faster
As traffic on the quantum-secured backbone hits a new high, physicists keep repeating the thing the public keeps forgetting.

The Q-Net backbone moved its heaviest verified traffic day on record this week, and Dr. Wei-Lin Tan of the Singapore Institute spent much of it correcting the same misconception she has corrected for years. "Entanglement secures the channel. It does not speed the message," she said. "Nothing on Q-Net travels faster than light, including the news that reaches you over it." The record — flagged by network monitors after October's desalination-cost turmoil pushed encrypted commercial traffic upward — reflects volume, not velocity: more institutions routing sensitive settlement and relief data over a line no eavesdropper can read, not a physics breakthrough. Tan, who demonstrated a million-qubit processor over the same backbone in September, worries the shorthand misleads. In a Jakarta relief office, coordinator Rahmat Halim said the distinction matters little to him: "It arrives safe. That is the part I needed." The wires are secure. They are not magic.
