Q-Net Encryption Holds as Traffic Doubles Under Storm Reroutes

When climate outages forced continents to borrow each other's data lines, the quantum-keyed backbone did the one thing it was built to do.

Q-Net Encryption Holds as Traffic Doubles Under Storm Reroutes — The Lost Archive, 2124

For most of the past month the Q-Net backbone has run at nearly twice its usual load, and almost nobody noticed — which its engineers count as the entire point. When autumn storms knocked terrestrial fiber offline across three coastal grids, traffic rerouted onto longer, shared paths, exposing far more of the world's data to far more untrusted hops. The quantum-key-distribution layer, operational since 2110, secured each of those hops without a single reported compromise. "Q-Net does not move your message faster; it makes the channel one nobody can quietly read," said Dr. Wei-Lin Tan of the Singapore Institute, correcting a persistent public misreading. Entanglement, she stressed, secures the line — it transmits nothing itself. The Institute, weeks after demonstrating a million-qubit processor over the same backbone, says the stress test mattered more than the milestone: the network that guards twelve billion people's traffic proved it degrades gracefully. "Boring under load," Tan said, "is the highest praise a network earns."
