Delegates Gather in Geneva as a Migrant-Pace Warning Looms This Weekend
Before Hearth Relief's expected briefing, Concordat corridors are already crowded with the arithmetic of movement.

GENEVA — Delegations filtered into the Global Concordat Council's autumn sitting this week under the shadow of a warning that has not yet been delivered: Hearth Relief International is expected in the coming days to brief the Council on the accelerating pace at which registered climate migrants are climbing past 120 million as heat corridors widen. "We are preparing for the number, not reacting to it," said one Passage Trust corridor coordinator in the hallway. Secretary-General Ingrid Halvorsen, who opened the summer's emergency water session, told delegates the migration and water files "are the same file, read at different distances." No resolution is scheduled for this sitting; officials describe the week as groundwork. For a delegate like Aïcha Traoré of a Sahel resettlement authority, the abstraction has a face: "In my district it is not a hundred and twenty million. It is the Diallo family, and the family after them, and the road."
