Concordat Committees Quietly Draft the Migration Item Before Next Week
In Geneva's corridors, delegates are shaping the migration debate the Council has not yet formally opened.

GENEVA — Ahead of a migration item expected on the Global Concordat Council's floor next week, delegates spent this week in the unglamorous committee rooms where the real language is written, according to officials familiar with the drafting. The corridors are already bracing for the figures Hearth Relief International is expected to present — a registered climate-migrant count climbing past 120 million as heat corridors widen — though the relief agency's formal warning has not yet been tabled. "The floor speeches are theatre; the committee is where corridors either widen or narrow for real people," said Concordat Secretary-General Ingrid Halvorsen, who convened the preparatory sessions. For Passage Trust field coordinator Amara Okoye, watching from a Sahel corridor where arrivals have not paused for the diplomacy, the committee's pace is its own message. "We are already past the number they will argue over," she said. "The corridor does not wait for the vote."
