Concordat Ministers Convene Quietly Ahead of a Migration Reckoning
Delegates gather in Geneva as corridor pressure builds toward a formal warning still days away.

GENEVA — Behind the shuttered doors of the Global Concordat Council, migration ministers spent Thursday in the unglamorous work of preparation, aides said, drafting positions for a relief-and-corridors debate expected later this month. No decision was taken; none was on the agenda. The registered climate-migrant count has climbed past 120 million as heat corridors widen, and Hearth Relief International has signaled it will formally brief the Council on the accelerating pace — a warning still days off, not yet delivered. "We are getting our arithmetic in order before the room fills," said one delegation official, who spoke on background. Secretary-General Ingrid Halvorsen, who chaired July's water session, kept the meeting deliberately low-key. Passage Trust, which manages the resettlement corridors, sent observers rather than demands. For Mariam Cissé, a Bamako-born caseworker seconded to the Trust, the caution reads as familiar. "The number moves whether or not the ministers are ready," she said. "This week they are getting ready."
