With the Safety Review Still Open, Clinics Choose to Wait

LAGOS / SÃO PAULO — The safety review of Somaform Augmetics' neural-interface line remains open and contested this week, with regulators requesting further data and no ruling in sight. Rather than wait for a verdict, a handful of augmentation clinics have quietly stopped scheduling new neural fittings until the review closes. "I am not saying the interface is unsafe. I am saying I do not yet know, and 'I do not know' is a reason to pause," said Dr. Ifeoma Balogun, who runs an augmentation clinic in Lagos and has deferred a dozen fittings. Augmented people are past five percent of the population, and the neural interfaces sit at the contested frontier of that figure.
