A Week After the Million-Qubit Demo, the Hard Question Is Trust
The Singapore milestone proved the machine runs; researchers in Jakarta now ask what its results can honestly be believed to mean.

JAKARTA — When the Singapore Institute ran a million-qubit processor across the Q-Net backbone a week ago, the applause was for the number. The unease, quieter, is about verification. "A machine that can compute what no one else can check is a machine you have to take on faith," said Dr. Rahmat Wijaya, a complexity theorist at Pacific Rim University, describing the field's new preoccupation: how to trust an answer no classical computer can independently confirm. Physicist Dr. Wei-Lin Tan, who helped present the demonstration, has been candid that Q-Net secures the channel but transmits nothing faster than light — the entanglement guards the message, it does not carry it. The distinction matters, because public excitement keeps outrunning the physics.
