LAGOS — The graph that occupies Adaeze Nwosu's mornings is the one nobody outside the control room ever sees: the slow autumn slide as air-conditioning demand eases and the grid's baseload mix has to be rebalanced without a bump. Fusion supplies close to 30 percent of the reconnected grid, and that share, engineers say, is a floor to build on rather than a cushion to relax into. "A baseload machine likes to run flat; a season does not," said Nwosu, a dispatch supervisor coordinating the West African interconnection. Aurora Fusion Works, which synced a new reactor back in August, has been feeding steadier output into exactly these handovers, its chief executive Emeka Okonkwo calling reliability "the product, not the megawatts." The stakes are mundane and total: a stumble here is a brownout in a city of millions. For now the ramp holds, one rehearsed adjustment at a time.
