A Month On, Aurora's New Reactor Has Steadied a Nervous Grid
The reactor synced in August has held fusion near a third of the reconnected grid through the summer's worst load.

LAGOS — The baseload reactor Aurora Fusion Works brought online in early August has run without a fault through five weeks of peak cooling demand, keeping fusion at roughly 30 percent of the reconnected grid, the company reported this week. The claim matters most where the margin is thinnest. In a Lagos control room, load dispatcher Efosa Bello walked a reporter through the August heat, when demand for cooling in a city of twenty-three million pushed the network to the edge nightly. "The old fear was the 2 a.m. shortfall," Bello said. "This summer the 2 a.m. shortfall did not come." Aurora's chief executive, Emeka Okonkwo, cautioned against reading steadiness as surplus, noting that a third of the grid still leans on strained legacy sources. Analysts agree the achievement is reliability, not abundance: one clean reactor holding a line, in one city, through one hard month.
