Singapore Readies a Million-Qubit Demonstration Over Q-Net
Physicists at the Singapore Institute say a processor of unprecedented scale will run this week across the secured backbone — if the calibration holds.

SINGAPORE — In a shielded hall on the Singapore Institute campus, technicians are spending eighteen-hour days coaxing a processor toward a threshold the field has chased for a decade: a million working qubits, run over the Q-Net backbone that secures the world's networks. The demonstration is expected within days, though the Institute stresses it is not yet done. "A qubit is a promise you have to keep a million times at once," said Dr. Wei-Lin Tan, the quantum physicist and science communicator overseeing the calibration, watching a cryostat hold near absolute zero on a monitor beside her. Tan was careful about what the machine is not: Q-Net secures the channel, she noted, but transmits no information faster than light, and this processor computes — it does not think.
