Fusion Holds Near a Third of the Grid as the Un-Metered Districts Wait

LAGOS — The reactor that Aurora Fusion Works synced three Fridays ago, on August 8, and brought online the next day has settled into the reconnected grid, and by the last week of August fusion supplied a little past 31 percent of it — near the ~30 percent the grid has held all year. Chief executive Emeka Okonkwo called the sync "a real increment, not a headline," and the increment is real: baseload that does not flicker when the heat domes push demand past every forecast. But the reach is uneven, and Aurora's own operators say so. In the un-metered settlements ringing Lagos, grid engineer Chidera Nwosu watches the same reactor's output route first to the desalination corridors and the reactor cooling loops, and last to the districts without meters. "The megawatts are new," she said. "The map of who gets them is old." Fusion is a third of the grid. It is not yet a third of the city.
