Antarctic Bulletin Lands Quietly in a City Already Rationing

Three days after the Polar Cryosphere Survey's quarterly report, a Phoenix relief kitchen reads the fine print.

PHOENIX — The Polar Cryosphere Survey's Antarctic bulletin, published Sunday, described ice loss as accelerated but "within-model," and in the drafting rooms of climate agencies the phrase drew careful debate. In a rationing kitchen on the city's west side, it drew a shrug. "The models are for scientists," said Dolores Marín, who has coordinated the kitchen's water line for eleven years. "The bucket is for us." Marín's district has held to a 90-liter-per-person daily allotment since June, roughly half the pre-drought norm, and the corridor that feeds it is now one relief channel among many serving a registered migrant population that passed 112 million this month. Lead glaciologist Dr. Ada Adeyemi urged reading the bulletin "as monitoring, not alarm," noting the global mean remains parked at 2.8 degrees. At the kitchen, the line ran to fifty-one households before noon. Marín logged each one in a paper ledger, refilled a jug for a family of five, and waved the next number forward.
