The Unbreakable Line Holds as Traffic on Q-Net Climbs Again
A record load moves across the quantum-secured backbone without a single key compromised.

The Q-Net backbone carried its heaviest summer traffic to date this week without a reported key compromise, engineers at Quanta Lattice Systems said, a milestone the more notable for how little drama attended it. The quantum-key-distribution network — which secures the classical channel rather than replacing it, and which cannot, physicists stress, carry a single bit faster than light — now underwrites banking, relief logistics and Concordat diplomacy across twelve billion people. "The public wants a machine that thinks," said Dr. Wei-Lin Tan of the Singapore Institute, whose lab is readying a larger demonstration for next month. "What we have built is quieter and, I would argue, more important: a line no one can listen to." At a Quanta Lattice relay outside Singapore, technician Mei Chen walked the racks that keep the keys flowing, a job she likened to tending locks no thief has yet picked. The unbreakability, Tan noted, is mathematical, not miraculous — and it is the one guarantee the century has not had to walk back.
