Aurora Fusion Works reported this week that the baseload reactor it brought online on 9 August is running at rated output, holding fusion at roughly 31 percent of the reconnected grid, up from the standing 30. Chief executive Emeka Okonkwo told operators the unit had "done exactly what a baseload machine is for — it is boring, and boring is the whole point." Yet grid engineers in Lagos, where the new capacity feeds a corridor of four million, say the gain is real but modest: fusion carries the steady middle of the day, while the dusk peak, when cooling load and returning workers collide, still leans on stored and legacy power. A dispatch supervisor in Lagos, watching the evening ramp climb, put it plainly: "The reactor gave us a firmer floor. It did not give us a taller ceiling." The floor, she added, is what you notice only when it is missing — and this August, for the first summer in years, it did not go missing.
