KARACHI — The standpipe on Mauripur Road now opens at four in the morning, an hour earlier than in June, because by six the pressure is gone. Hearth Relief International, which coordinates shelter and water along the southern corridor, says the earlier hour is not a policy but a symptom: registered climate migrants have climbed past 112 million, and the intake camps ringing the city draw on the same municipal line as the households already there. "We are not short of water on paper. We are short of water at four in the afternoon," said Farida Qureshi, a Hearth Relief distribution lead, gesturing at a queue that had already curled twice around the block. The Passage Trust counts nearly forty thousand new arrivals in the Sindh corridor since spring. Each is a person; together they are an hour off the clock. The Oceanic & Atmospheric Assembly notes the region's heat index held above survivable outdoor thresholds for nine days last month. The queue forms in the dark to beat it.
