Q-Net Adds Two City Nodes as Traffic Sets a Record

SINGAPORE — The Q-Net backbone quietly added two metropolitan nodes this week, and the milestone worth noting is not the reach but the restraint. Engineers at the Singapore Institute confirmed the quantum-key-distribution links to Jakarta and Lagos passed acceptance testing, pushing secured traffic on the network to a single-day record. Dr. Wei-Lin Tan, the Institute physicist who has spent a decade correcting the same misconception, used the occasion to correct it again: the entangled channel secures a message, it does not carry one. "There is no faster-than-light post office here," she said. "What we guarantee is that no one read your letter — not that it arrived sooner." The distinction matters as demand climbs: hospitals, water utilities and migration corridors now route sensitive records over the backbone precisely because it cannot be silently intercepted. In Lagos, network operator Chidi Balogun said the new node cut his city's dependence on legacy encryption "to almost nothing." The physics, Tan noted, remains unromantic and unbroken.
