Grid Operators Brace for a New Reactor's First Full Load

Grid Operators Brace for a New Reactor's First Full Load — The Lost Archive, 2124

GENEVA — In a control room at Alpine Geneva Polytechnic, dispatchers spent this week rehearsing a moment that has not yet happened. Aurora Fusion Works has scheduled its newest baseload reactor to synchronize to the reconnected grid this coming Friday, and the days before a first full load are, engineers say, the quiet ones. Fusion already supplies roughly 30 percent of the global electricity grid; the new unit, if it comes online as planned, would nudge that share upward. "You do not celebrate before the sync," said lead dispatcher Anselm Roches, whose team is modeling how the surrounding network will absorb the addition. Aurora, the chief commercial rival to Kronos Energy Syndicate, has said little publicly ahead of the milestone, and its chief executive Emeka Okonkwo declined to be drawn on timing beyond "when it is ready, and not before." For now the reactor sits primed and dark, and a continent's dispatchers wait, watching a schedule and a weather forecast with equal attention.
