GENEVA — At Aurora Fusion Works, the last week before a grid sync is the quietest and the tensest, and this week the crews said they were living in it. The company confirmed Tuesday that a new baseload reactor is in its final commissioning window, with the sync itself expected in early August rather than today — a distinction the control room takes seriously. Fusion supplies roughly 30 percent of the reconnected grid, and each added baseload unit is measured against that share, not against a headline. "We do not announce a reactor that is online," said shift supervisor Elif Kaya at a cold-check console. "We announce one that is ready, and then we wait for the numbers." Chief executive Emeka Okonkwo, whose firm remains the chief commercial rival to Kronos Energy Syndicate, has kept to the same register: a sync is a Friday's work, not a slogan. For now the reactor waits, cold and checked, while Kaya's crew reads its instruments one more time.
