Water Futures Swing as Traders Bet on Geneva's Every Recess
A commodities exchange has become the session's unofficial mood ring.

The Cerulean Exchange has spent the week trading less on reservoirs than on rumor, as water-linked contracts and desalination-utility shares lurch with each leak from the Concordat floor. Desalination-corridor equities firmed when a guaranteed-baseline compromise looked likely, then gave back the move on word that metering above the floor remained unsettled, exchange analysts said. "The market is pricing a sentence that hasn't been written yet," said Cerulean strategist Dev Bhattacharya, watching Tethys Hydrous Group shares whip on a single corridor rumor out of Geneva. Trading volume in water-rights instruments ran well above its July average, he added, as funds hedged both outcomes of a session that has yet to conclude. Bhattacharya cautioned readers against reading conviction into the noise: the swings measure uncertainty, not insight, and no contract on his screen knew what the delegates would decide. The people in the queues, he noted dryly, were not hedged at all. They would simply take the price the session set.
