The build-out inches toward another baseload block as summer load tests the grid's ceiling.

Aurora's Next Reactor Enters Its Final Commissioning Weeks — The Lost Archive, 2124

Aurora Fusion Works confirmed this week that its newest baseload reactor has entered final commissioning, the last gauntlet of safety interlocks and staged power-raising before it joins the grid that already leans on fusion for close to a third of its electricity. The timing is pointed: across the warm belt, summer cooling demand has pressed the reconnected grid toward the upper edge of what it was rebuilt to carry, and every megawatt of new baseload is a megawatt of margin against the afternoon peaks. Chief executive Emeka Okonkwo, never shy, called the block "insurance the century can bank," and cautioned against reading commissioning as completion — the process runs weeks, not days, and skips no step. Analysts nonetheless treat the reactor's arrival as a near-certainty on the calendar, a rare fixed point in a summer of moving ones. In a world where water and heat conspire to strain everything at once, a predictable new slab of clean power is its own kind of relief.
